A child’s wellbeing and happiness is very important to parents. Young children are likely to get sick because they get exposed to various germs for the first time. It is not uncommon for children to fall sick but many parents get extremely worried if they do. Most parents try to understand the cause of their child’s sickness by taking them to Pediatrician. What scares most parents is when their toddler begins vomiting.

Toddlers will play outdoor and engage with other people. They are exposed to various bacteria and viruses. Toddlers often fall sick which also in a way helps in the development of their immunity. When your toddler is either allergic to a particular substance or has an upset stomach they will either feel nauseous or vomit.  But here are various reasons as to why your toddler may start vomiting.

Why Your Toddler May Vomit:

Vomiting is a reflex to get rid of viruses, bacteria, or parasites in your digestive system. Your toddler can vomit for various other reasons but sometimes their vomit can tell you the problem they may be facing.

Following are common causes and signs you should keep an eye out for:

1) Gastroenteritis: This is caused by either a virus, bacteria or a parasite. It is typically known as the ‘stomach flu’, expected to subside within the first 24-48 hours. Diarrhea is a common symptom of this as well.

2) Motion Sickness: Sometimes when there is an imbalance within the inner year that also controls eye-moment or when the brain receives conflicting information from parts of your body that sense motion – it can cause nausea or vomiting.

3) Food Poisoning: When toddlers are exposed to wide variety of food, sometimes not everything they eat would suit their body. This can cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

4) Dehydration: If your toddler is vomiting, experiencing diarrhea along with any other problem, they are likely to also face dehydration as well. Some signs of dehydration you should look out for are – dry, cracked lips or sunken eyes and not urinating then its best to consult a pediatrician as soon as possible.

5) Belly Aches: Abdominal pain accompanied with vomiting fever and vomiting, but not diarrhea can be a sign of appendicitis.

6) Strangely Colored Vomit: If your toddlers vomit looks bright or dark red, the vomit is likely to contain blood in it. This indicates that there is either an ulcer or an infection in the GI Tract. If the vomit looks green, it is likely to contain bile in it. This is indicative of some kind of blockage in the digestive system.
