Dr. PL Saravanan was born in the humble city of Madurai. From a young age he realised that he was fond of technology and keen on becoming an aeronautical engineer. However, convinced by his mother to shift his profession to become a doctor, he obliged and is grateful for her encouragement to guide him down a different path. During his UG days at Madurai Medical College he found that Cardiology was a very technical specialisation where he could combine his love for technology with science. Dr. Saravanan worked as a railway doctor and travelled across India. After completing his Post Graduation as MD - General Medicine at Madurai he moved to UK and trained in John Radcliffe Hospital where he learnt the nuances of pacemakers and all implantable electronic devices. He also worked as a Teaching Lecturer in the University of Oxford teaching UGs in Oxford Medical School. He then shifted to Manchester where he completed his PhD and then became a Senior Lecturer. He also worked in Bordeaux which is a renowned centre in Electrophysiology. He also trained in Advance Heart Failure and Heart Transplant in the Heart Transplant Unit in Manchester. He is passionate about cars and aeroplanes and has a private pilot license. He even holds an MA in creative writing, having written a collection of poems. He is a fitness enthusiast and a dog lover. Dr. PL Saravanan can converse in Hindi, Tamil, French, Kannada, Malayalam and of course English.
